Global road safety body IRF welcomes MoRTH move to install QR code on every major road project

New Delhi: International Road Federation (IRF) a global road safety body working for better and safer roads worldwide has welcomed Mr Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for  Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) recent announcement to install QR code on every major road  project   and termed it as a bold new transparency push and a major step towards participatory governance.

“The bold new transparency and visionary initiative to introduce QR codes for improving the quality and monitoring of Indian roads marks a significant milestone in the nation’s journey towards creating a more transparent, accountable, and technology-driven infrastructure management system. By enabling real-time tracking of road construction quality and maintenance, this initiative will go a long way in ensuring durability, safety, and long-term sustainability of India’s road network.” Said Mr K K Kapila, President Emeritus, International Road Federation (IRF) who also heads The Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats (ICT) a road infra company in a congratulatory letter written to the Union MoRTH Minister.

“This innovative step by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways truly reflects the Government of India’s dedication to enhancing the quality, transparency, and efficiency of road infrastructure development—a move that will greatly benefit citizens and the economy alike.” Said Mr Kapila.

“This move reflects an unwavering commitment to improving the quality, safety, and sustainability of India’s road infrastructure. Your  foresight in ensuring that contractors remain accountable for road maintenance for up to ten years will go a long way in strengthening the culture of responsibility and excellence in the sector.” he said,

IRF also appreciated Mr Uma Shankar, Secretary, MoRTH for reiterating  the importance of this initiative and for his assurance of close monitoring of its implementation. His proactive approach will ensure that this visionary reform translates effectively on-ground.

“This remarkable step towards good governance, citizen empowerment, and infrastructure transparency, which will undoubtedly inspire similar reforms across other sectors. India is taking a decisive stride toward responsible, citizen-centric administration — a model that could inspire similar reforms across other public sectors.” He added.
