Guwahati: Army’s Eastern Command chief Lt Gen RP Kalita has issued a stern warning to China on the day of the two-day Northeast Swabhiman Utsav held in Guwahati. He said that India has clearly told China that now China should not make the mistake of considering us as the India of 1962, we are the state-of-the-art country of 2022.

The country has progressed on every front. Chief Lt Gen R.P. Kalita said India has come a long way not only in the field of infrastructure but also in every field. The Army has warned China that India has strengthened its military power in the last 60 years. Kalita assured the countrymen, “The Indian Army is fully prepared to deal with any situation. “Peace is slowly prevailing in the Northeast. Be it Assam, Manipur or any state, the insurgents are constantly laying down arms and joining the mainstream. As the violence subsides, the concerned ministries will consider it in coordination with the removal of AFSPA. A decision will be taken after that. The role of unsung heroes in the two-day event is to spread awareness about the Indian armed forces and other important organs of the government such as the North Eastern Council (NEC), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Assam Rifles and Northeast Frontier Railway, the Army official said. Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command, urged Ulfa-I’s elusive commander Paresh Baruah to come to the table for talks. “The Chief Minister of Assam has repeatedly appealed to them to join the mainstream and give different opportunities to our new generation. I urge them to come out for talks. He further said that the influence of ULFA-I at the ground level in the state has reduced significantly. “ULFA no longer has influence on the ground in the state,” Lt Gen Kalita said. It has some impact in only four districts of Assam.
