Jawa Yezdi celebrates Czech Day 2026, honouring its origins and journey in India

Chennai: Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles marked Czech Day 2026 at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi, celebrating a journey that began in Prague nearly a century ago and continues to resonate with generations of riders in India. From helping shape motorcycling culture across generations to establishing India’s modern classic category, Jawa continues its legacy.

Born in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1929, Jawa began its journey with a vision rooted in innovation and a willingness to challenge convention. The company’s first motorcycle, the JAWA 500 OHV, marked the beginning of a story that would shape its place in motorcycling history. Recognising the need to make motorcycling accessible to a wider audience, Jawa followed this with the lightweight and highly successful JAWA 175 in 1932, helping establish its reputation and laying the foundation for future growth.

Over the decades, Jawa became known for pioneering motorcycle development and engineering ingenuity. Among its most celebrated milestones was the Jawa Pérák, developed during the Second World War and later regarded as one of the most progressive motorcycles of its era. Innovations such as the automatic clutch system reflected Jawa’s willingness to challenge convention, helped reinforce its place in motorcycling history.

Jawa’s connection with India began in 1960 with the arrival of Ideal Jawa, marking the start of a relationship that would span generations. The motorcycles earned a distinctive place in India’s motorcycling culture, building a loyal following across generations of riders. Jawa’s presence extended beyond the roads, finding a place in popular culture, motorsports, rider communities and Indian cinema, where they became closely associated with the spirit of motorcycling. Decades later, that connection continues to resonate with riders across the country.

The return of Jawa in 2018 marked the beginning of a new era. Leading this revival was the Jawa 42, a motorcycle that challenged convention and became the first modern classic motorcycle of India in this category, redefining the segment for a new generation of riders. More than a new motorcycle, the Jawa 42 became the foundation of Jawa’s modern-day chapter in India. Building on this momentum, Jawa has continued to expand its portfolio, most recently through the Jawa All Stars range, comprising the Jawa 42, Jawa 42 FJ, and Jawa 42 Bobber.

Mr. Anupam Thareja, Co-founder, Classic Legends, said, “Czech Day gives us an opportunity to celebrate the origins that have shaped Jawa for nearly a century and at the same time, reflect on the journey it continues to make in India. The Jawa 42 helped establish the modern classic category in India, but its significance goes beyond creating a category. It brought the Jawa spirit to a new generation of riders and gave us the foundation to take that spirit forward. Jawa has never been about nostalgia alone. It is about carrying its distinctive character forward for the rider of today.”

Jawa’s participation at Czech Day 2026 reflects a journey that connects its origins with India’s evolving motorcycling culture. From inspiring generations of riders to creating India’s modern classic category, Jawa remains focused on creating motorcycles that speak to the rider of today while staying true to the spirit.
