Mumbai: Mumbai Pickle Power showed remarkable grit in their World Pickleball League (WPBL) 2026 fixture at the Jio World Garden tonight, as the game ended up 3-2 in the favour of Bengaluru Jawans.
At the heart of Mumbai’s performance was the dynamic Brandon Lane. Taking the court alongside his mixed doubles partner Glauka Carvajal Lane, Brandon produced a performance for the ages by downing Eunggwon Kim and Molly O’Donoghue through a spirit 16-7 outing.
The duo kept a hold of the match right from the onset, ensuring a smooth sailing across both halves. With a deft mix of powerful smashes and some tenacious defence, the duo delighted the home crowd as their favourite pairing helped Mumbai level the scores 1-1 at the end of two matches.
After two difficult outings in men’s singles and women’s doubles, Mumbai found a reason to smile again through Brandon and Santhosh Narayanan in the closing fixture of the day. Brandon was at his breezy best, dominating Kim and Mauro Garcia by 17-8.
Brandon has been Mumbai’s lynchpin from the commencement of WPBL. Last season, he was sweeping aside opponents with ease in men’s singles, before an illness put a halt to his appearances in the knockouts. This time around, he is assuming a different role, playing primarily across the doubles matches, and tonight was another testament to how his presence and subsequent success is integral to Mumbai Pickle Power’s fortunes in the WPBL.
