Sohna: The KIIT College of Engineering, is hosting the India International Symposium on Acoustics (IISA 2025) — a three-day global conference that has brought together scientists, researchers, and industry experts from 20 countries to share their latest research and innovations in the field of acoustics.
With the theme “Acoustics Science and Technology for Quality of Life,” the symposium focuses on how sound and acoustics can be harnessed to create a more balanced, peaceful, and productive world. The event is being attended by delegates from France, Hong Kong, Denmark, the UK, the US, Nepal, Portugal, Indonesia, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, and several other nations.
The conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Kevin Cormier from AECOM, France, who emphasized that acoustics is not merely a branch of engineering but a science closely linked to human experience. “Real change will happen when we combine technological knowledge with human understanding and acknowledge the emotional value of sound,” he said. He added that while artificial intelligence can enhance research, true creativity and solutions stem from human insight.
Dr. S.S. Aggarwal, Director General of the KIIT Group of Colleges, described sound as an energy that brings harmony to life and said that acoustics can be the foundation of a peaceful and productive society. Dr. D.K. Aswal, President of the Acoustical Society of India, highlighted how acoustics today plays an important role in improving the quality of life through applications in smart cities, healthcare, and transportation.
Dr. Neelima Kamrah, Registrar of the KIIT Group of Colleges, said that the symposium marks an important step toward establishing the meaningful role of acoustics in promoting peace, health, and well-being. “A better sound environment not only improves mental health but also enhances productivity and comfort in daily life,” she noted.
The first day of the event featured detailed discussions and research presentations on diverse topics, including the health effects of noise on bus drivers, AI-based bird sound recognition, impact of noise on marine life and industry, the role of sound in language technology, and underwater noise caused by pile driving. Scientists from India and abroad shared their latest findings and technological advancements.
The conference also showcased innovative technologies for noise control and sound balance, which participants described as “the need of the future.” Over the next two days, experts will continue to exchange ideas and explore how acoustics can contribute to social well-being, sustainable development, and improved quality of life.
