Many politicians, when they speak, make noise, not sense: Public Speaking trainer

Hyderabad : At a time when politics is increasingly driven by television debates, viral clips and social media visibility, communication experts say many politicians are creating noise but failing to create meaning.

According to trainers at Media Junction, a Hyderabad-based specialist school for public speaking, political communication in India is facing a serious clarity crisis, especially among young and emerging leaders.

“Volume is not communication. Many politicians create applause, but not understanding,” said D. Ramchandram, communication trainer at Media Junction.

“Shouting can attract attention. Sense creates influence. People no longer want loud leaders. They want clear leaders,” he said.

He observed that many young politicians today are digitally active, confident on social media and aggressive online, but struggle during live speeches, interviews, press conferences, debates and spontaneous public interaction.

“As politics becomes increasingly media-driven, many leaders mistake aggression, slogans and theatrics for communication. But audiences today are more informed and emotionally intelligent. They can easily distinguish between emotion and manipulation, confidence and emptiness,” he explained.

According to him, one of the major reasons behind ineffective political communication is the lack of formal public speaking training.

“Most politicians are never trained in speech structure, storytelling, audience psychology, clarity, persuasive communication, voice modulation or debate handling. Many simply imitate other leaders, which often creates artificial speaking styles,” he said.

Communication experts note that many speeches today become repetitive, scattered and emotionally charged without delivering meaningful clarity.

“Politics today suffers from communication inflation. Many speeches create emotion but leave no message behind. A microphone amplifies voice, not wisdom,” Ramchandram remarked.

He added that great political speaking is actually rooted in simplicity.

“The greatest political leaders succeeded because people understood them—not because they shouted. Great speakers simplify complex issues, sound authentic, connect emotionally and speak conversationally,” he said.

Against this backdrop, Media Junction has announced a Four-Day Workshop on Conquering Stage Fear and Effective Public Speaking aimed at politicians, aspiring leaders, spokespersons, student leaders and public representatives.

The workshop will be held from May 28 to 31, 2026. Sessions will be conducted from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm on the first three days and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on the final day.

The programme includes practical training in speech delivery, stage confidence, audience engagement, media interaction, body language, persuasive communication, spontaneous speaking and leadership communication.

The organisers said only limited participants will be accommodated to ensure personalised attention.

Venue: Media Junction, Ground Floor 4A, Partani Towers, Golconda Cross Roads, Musheerabad, Hyderabad-20.
