Nawgati Rolls Out 3-Pronged Hydrotest Validity Verification Framework at IGL Stations to Automate CNG Cylinder Safety

New Delhi – In a major leap forward for fuel retail safety, the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) Joint Chief Controller of Explosives (North Circle), Sanjay Kumar Singh, officially inaugurated a comprehensive suite of safety initiatives for Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) at the Shantipath CNG station in New Delhi. As the central technology layer of this multi-initiative safety drive, Nawgati’s AI-enabled vehicle recognition and hydrotest compliance system was formally launched alongside IGL’s broader station safety and public awareness programs.

The strategic rollout addresses critical safety imperatives. Following recent regulatory directives from PESO requiring city gas distribution companies to strictly enforce safety standards at CNG pumps, IGL has deployed Nawgati’s technology across key stations in the capital, with plans for a rapid scale-up across more IGL outlets in Delhi-NCR.

The system integrates seamlessly with the online PESO portal through an automated verification pipeline driven by Nawgati’s comprehensive 3-Pronged Strategy for Hydrotest Validity Verification:

– Nawgati Fuelling App (Consumer-Facing): India’s largest fuel discovery platform, enabling vehicle owners to track their hydrotest status and digitally display their compliance pass like an airport web check-in prior to refuelling.

– Aaveg Compliance App (used by Queue Marshals): A dedicated tool for station staff and marshals to perform instant, real-time handheld checks for vehicles waiting in queues.

– Aaveg System (provides Ground Truth & High Coverage): Powered by Nawgati’s proprietary technology, the Aaveg system automatically scans all license plates in the stations and showcase their Hydrotest status on an LED at the station.

According to IGL, if a cylinder’s certification has expired or is invalid, automated alerts are immediately dispatched to station staff via handheld devices, LED displays, and public announcement systems, halting unverified vehicles before they can refuel.

In addition to Nawgati’s digital verification platform, the PESO Chief inaugurated several interconnected safety initiatives launched by IGL. These included a comprehensive multi-channel Public Awareness Campaign across FM radio, print media, social media, and station posters to educate drivers on timely hydrotesting and safe refueling practices. IGL also rolled out a strengthened Safety Management Action Plan to enforce operational accountability, detect illegal cylinder modifications, and trigger automated real-time alerts across handheld devices, LED displays, and Public Announcement (PA) systems to immediately halt refueling for non-compliant vehicles. Furthermore, IGL leadership emphasized that establishing robust digital safety systems is vital as India scales up natural gas usage toward a 15% share in the national energy basket and prepares infrastructure for future hydrogen blending.

Ambuj Singh, Senior Vice President (Business and Operations), Nawgati, added, “Fuel retail safety relies on robust enforcement and friction-free technology. Having senior leadership inaugurate this rollout at IGL Shantipath is a testament to the urgency and impact of our solution. By combining our proprietary technology, the Aaveg Compliance app for queue marshals,  and consumer-facing transparency through the Nawgati app, we are helping operators eliminate manual blind spots, prevent unverified cylinders from refuelling, and set a new benchmark for smart infrastructure safety.”

Since its founding in 2019 by Vaibhav Kaushik, Aalaap Nair, and Aryan Sisodia, Nawgati has grown from a consumer information layer into a full-stack fuel retail data company, working to reduce congestion and improve fuel availability for drivers across India.
