Rare surgery in Kims to a woman working in Kuwait

Hyderabad: A woman working in Kuwait underwent a rare surgery at the KIMS Secunderabad Hospital. In addition to regular work in a very hot area, doctors found that she got cancer for the second time due to the dust and dirt mostly going into her nose. Dr. Subrahmanyam, a consultant ENT surgeon at KIMS Secunderabad, said cancer at the holes in the back of the nose could also cause shortness of breath.

Venkata Subbamma (45) from Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh works as a cook in Kuwait. Her duty involves cooking non-vegetarian dishes in large vessels regularly.

The hot weather, the fumes from the oil, the smell of spices all added to her misery.

In addition to this, she got cancer due to the heavy dust in that place. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer and went to some doctors in Kurnool. There she underwent a biopsy and was given radiation. After having two chemotherapy sittings, she flew back to Kuwait due to the non-availability of leaves. The disease would have been completely cured if she had undergone four more chemotherapy sittings. But the disease reversed as she did not receive proper treatment at the right time.

Dr. Subrahmanyam explained that this type of cancer called Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma is serious It’s going to be the third stage as soon as it is detected. As with the outside of the nose, two holes will be there in the backside too. The cancer tumor is exactly there only. The doctors have to send two devises at the same time to that most inaccessible area. One is the endoscopy device to see where the procedure needs to be done. And the other is tumor removal equipment. Not only that, immediately next to the tumor are the most crucial nerves that supply blood to the brain. If at all any injury is caused due to the surgery, bleeding will be unstoppable and could be life-threatening too.

Fortunately, KIMS Hospital has a team of experienced anesthesiologists with state-of-the-art medical equipment to complete the surgery without a single drop of blood. She was discharged two days later and is currently receiving palliative radiation and chemotherapy.

This type of cancer occurs in very few people, and people should take appropriate precautions to prevent it.
