Sangeet Natak Academy culturally recalled martyrs of Patharughat

Mangaldai : Sangeet Natak Academy , an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture , Govt of India recalled the supreme sacrifice of the 140 peasants of the historic Patharughat Peasants’ Uprising with a cultural programme called “Patharughat Ki Veer Gatha” at Natya Mandir here on Friday . The event was organized in connection with the nation wide yearlong on going programme titled “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrated to mark the 75 years of independence of our country. Rich tribute was paid to the peasant martyrs through rendering several patriotic song by group of prominent artistes from Guwahati including Rupam Bhuyan under the direction of veteran music arranger of the state Ramen Choudhury .

Similarly patriotic chorus were also presented by artistes of Mangaldai Youth Club Music College . The programme also featured recitation of patriotic poems including the popular poem titled “Mor Desh” by renowned actor Pranjal Saikia , performance of ‘Oja Pali’ dance by promising young artiste Nayan Jyoti Nath and his group and musical narration of Patharughat Uprising by prominent folk artiste Tarun Azad Deka and his group. Earlier Padamshri award recipient eminent Satriya artiste ‘Nrityacharya’ Jatin Goswami ceremonially inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp in presence of several distinguished persons like Dr Nagendra Nath Sarma , Professor Idris Ali , Dr Khagendra Kumar Nath and Rajib Kumar Deka .
