Guwahati: President of India Draupadi Murmu flagged off Agartala-Khongsang Janshatabdi Express and Agartala-Kolkata Express from Agartala railway station on October 13. Along with this, trains connecting Tripura with Assam, West Bengal and Manipur will boost connectivity and tourism in the North Eastern Region. Speaking at the inaugural function, Draupadi Murmu said that the State of Tripura has played a major role in deepening India’s friendship with Bangladesh, from the very beginning.
On the completion of 50 years of the establishment of the State of Tripura, I congratulate all the brothers and sisters and children of the State. Tripura’s multi-coloured culture is the pride of India. Without the immortal music of Tripura, Sachin Dev Burman and Rahul Dev Burman, India’s modern smooth music cannot even be imagined.I wish that the Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Museum and Cultural Centre will play an important role in popularising tripura’s art, song and music and culture. After the event, Murmu visited Durgabari tea estate in Mohanpur subdivision of the district and interacted with its employees. “Do you send your children to school?” he asked Ashtami Munda, one of the five-six women labourers in the tea garden. Send your children to school regularly. Are you getting the benefit of free rice and other government schemes? Murmu also asked the plantation workers if they could identify Chief Minister (Manik) Saha and local MLA Krishnadhan Das among those accompanying them. The workers answered this question in the affirmative.

After Tripura, President Draupadi Murmu arrived in Guwahati from Tripura’s capital Agartala on Thursday afternoon on a two-day visit to Assam. This is his first visit to Assam after being elected to the highest office of the country. Murmu will attend several government programmes during her stay in the state. President Murmu will visit kamakhya temple and also inaugurate several projects and institutions. On his arrival at Guwahati airport, President Murmu was accompanied by Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sharaniya and others gave a rousing welcome. The President was given a guard of honour at the airport. From the airport, President Murmu headed straight to IIT Guwahati. President Draupadi Murmu virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati today.These include the supercomputer facility under the National Supercomputing Mission, the inauguration of ‘Param Kamrup’ and a laboratory for design and development of high-power microwave components at IIT Guwahati. Murmu also inaugurated Dhubri Medical College and Hospital in Assam and laid the foundation stone of regional institutes of National Institute of Virology in Dibrugarh and Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. He was accompanied by Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Bharati Pravin Pawar, Guwahati II Director TG Seetharam and other dignitaries. The President is on a two-day visit to Assam and it will conclude on Friday.
