New Delhi: The United Nations refugee agency, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR), has said more than four million people have left Ukraine since the start of Russia-Ukraine conflict on 24th of February which sparked Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War II. UNHCR Senior Emergency Coordinator in Poland Alex Mundt said, it is a tragic milestone and the fastest exodus of refugees moving in recent history.
According to UNHRC, more than 2.3 million refugees from Ukraine entered Poland, 6,08,000 in Romania, over 3,87,000 in Moldova and about 3,64,000 in Hungary in the last five weeks. Meanwhile, UN children’s agency UNICEF has said, half of the refugees from Ukraine are children and the number of children fleeing their homes continues to climb. In a statement, Executive Director of UNICEF Catherine Russell said, the situation inside Ukraine is spiraling.
