Uttar Pradesh government has granted a 15-day extension to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations of embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The extension has been given to enable the SIT to widen the scope of its probe and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into all aspects of the case. The investigation will be expanded further to ensure that every angle is thoroughly examined and that no guilty person is spared.
State government formed an SIT of three members on 15 June to probe irregularities under Commissioner of Lucknow Vijay Vishwas Pant. The team was directed to submit a preliminary report within seven days and a final report within 15 days, and that time period ended yesterday.
The SIT submitted its preliminary report to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Sanjay Prasad, on 23 June. Later, police arrested 8 people after the submission of the preliminary report. Now the SIT will file the final report on 15 July. It will continue its investigation with the aim of taking the case to its logical conclusion through a fair and comprehensive probe.
