UPPL files complaint against Hagrama Mohilary of submitting false details

From Preetam Brahma Choudhury

Kokrajhar: The United People’s Party, Liberal (UPP-L) has accused Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) president and former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council Hagrama Mohilary of submitting false details about his assets and liabilities during nomination for BTC elections.

Addressing mediapersons in Kokrajhar today, UPPL president said Hagrama Mohilary has undeclared assets worth more than 190 crores. “By siphoning off huge amounts of public welfare funds and promoting corruption of the highest order, Mohilary has deprived the people of BTR of long-lasting peace and all-round development, he said.

The UPPL has filed a complaint with the Returning Officer Kokrajhar in this connection demanding a probe by a special investigation agency and take necessary action.

Boro said an abnormally large discrepancy has been found between the value of assets declared by him in his candidate affidavit and the actual value of his assets. “While he claims to have assets amounting to a little more than Rs. 86 crores, his value of undisclosed assets far outweigh that of his assets being disclosed”, he said.

“Among the properties that Mohilary hasn’t declared include Hotel Gaurang Valley in Kokrajhar town, Champa Bitumin Hot Mixture plant, Gaurang Stone Crusher at Samthabari Chirang, MRM Hospital in Kokrajhar, two Petrol Pumps, 300 Bigha pond in Champa, 1000 bigha land in Kokrajhar and a few others”.

“His undisclosed commercial property including apartments, hotels and complexes in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Guwahati is worth Rs. 73 crores 46 lakhs. He also has luxury cars worth Rs 1.9 crores and diamonds amounting to Rs. 1.6 crores, besides having an investment worth Rs 120 Crores in bonds, shares, and mutual funds. He has six bank accounts in his name and 38 in his wife’s name, he added.

Accusing Mohilary also submitting false details about his assets, Boro said “if he can make such a flagrant attempt to mislead and deceive the government and the election commission, nothing is left to our imagination as to how low can he sink and to what extent can he stoop to amass unimaginable quantum of personal wealth out of public funds. If he can try to take the government itself for a ride, we can well imagine the plight of the public during his regime of 17 long years, he said adding that Mohilary has deceived, betrayed, and cheated the people for the past 17 years.
