Guwahati: Police from Majbat police station in Assam’s Udalguri district recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a forest area in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area. According to police, three AK-47 rifles, six magazines and 620 live cartridges concealed under the ground were recovered in the forest area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area of the district. A search operation was launched in shikariganga area, a number of Majbat, in the early hours of Sunday based on a tip-off. During this time this recovery has been made.
The operation was led by Majbat police station in-charge Rajiv Gohain, Lalpani police outpost SI Kailash Chandra Nath and Majbat APRG team. Police have registered an FIR in this regard and are investigating the matter. However, it is not known who hid the weapon.On the other hand, according to the Intelligence Bureau report, the security forces have suspected that Pakistan and China have sent chinese-made weapons from the underground to the North East. According to intelligence inputs, the Indian Army, Assam Police and security forces have launched a search operation in every corner of the northeast. Police have so far recovered 10 foreign pistols and eight spare magazines, including five 30 bore (China-made) and five 9 mm (based bareta), in a search operation along the China border.
