Agriculture officer arrested for taking bribe

GUWAHATI : A vigilance and anti-corruption team led by mahila DSP caught a woman Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) of Darang district agriculture department red handed while accepting bribe from a local paddy producer. The arrested Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) has been identified as Jyoti Rekha Das. Das, posted at Kharupetia under The Dalgaon Agricultural Sub-Division, was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a farmer identified as Jainal Abedin with a promise to issue a certificate for the sale of his paddy to various purchasing agencies including The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Association (NAFED).

The officer was arrested from a place near his rented house in Shantipur in Mangaldai. According to sources in the district agriculture office, Jyoti Rekha Das joined the district as an agriculture development officer after her transfer from Sonitpur district of Assam last February.Meanwhile, the District Agriculture Officer, said, “As of now, no ADO is allowed to issue any certificate as we have not yet received necessary correspondence from the purchasing agencies regarding the dates for initiating the process. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam tweeted that “As part of the campaign against corruption, today, a team from Directorate Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Assam caught Smriti Jyoti Rekha Das, Agriculture Development Officer, Kharupetia, red handed while accepting bribe of 15,000/- “
