Beyond Charity: Travel Creators Priya and Sid Join MrBeast in Building a Sustainable Community in Ghana

Ghana: In an experience that redefines the role of creators in driving social impact, travel creators Priya and Sid joined global creator MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) in Ghana for an ambitious community-building initiative focused on creating sustainable, long-term change. Spending a week on the ground, the couple witnessed and contributed to the development of a village designed to bring together essential infrastructure, healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities within a single, interconnected ecosystem.

For Priya and Sid, the experience went far beyond documenting a charitable initiative. It offered a firsthand look at what it takes to build a community that can sustain itself over time, moving beyond immediate relief to address some of the underlying challenges that affect everyday life.

Reflecting on the experience, Priya said, “When MrBeast asked us at the 1 Billion Followers Summit if we wanted to come to Ghana, obviously we said yes, but we had no idea how much this would rewire our brains. That week changed us to our core. We’re all so lucky in ways we don’t even know. What we realised is that there is no one blanket rule for fixing any issues in this world. It’s just one person at a time impacting one other person at a time with an act of kindness.”

The village, reportedly backed by an investment of approximately $10 million, is being developed with a long-term vision that extends beyond constructing physical infrastructure. Alongside homes, the project includes a hospital, a school and a local marketplace. The larger objective is to establish the facilities, resources and support structures required for the community to thrive well into the future.

During their time in Ghana, Priya and Sid travelled to the village daily, spending time with residents and participating in on-ground activities that included painting, planting and assisting with construction. One of the initiatives that stood out to them was the marketplace, designed to provide local residents, particularly those growing vegetables, with a shared space to sell their produce and create livelihood opportunities.

The initiative forms part of MrBeast’s broader efforts to address pressing challenges affecting communities in West Africa, including illegal child labour on cacao farms. Ghana also has a connection to his business, as the country is a source of cacao for Feastables, his chocolate brand. Explaining the thinking behind the initiative and the couple’s involvement, MrBeast said, “Our plans through this movement aim to inspire an entire generation to take action and create meaningful change that has a clear and lasting impact on communities. We’ve been doing a lot of work in Ghana, which is where we source our cacao for Feastables. There’s over a million kids in illegal child labour in West Africa, and we’ve been trying to get a lot of kids out of illegal child labour on cacao farms.”

He added that the selection process was driven by a genuine interest in helping others. “I had the team look through their content and see, are they actually passionate about helping people?”

Priya and Sid’s selection was influenced by content they had previously shared, particularly a video documenting their blood donation experience. Their participation reflects how personal stories and everyday acts of kindness can create opportunities to contribute to causes on a much larger scale.

Healthcare is another important pillar of the initiative. Access to maternal care and timely medical assistance remains a challenge in remote communities, where travelling long distances to reach healthcare facilities can have serious consequences. The hospital and plans to support access to trained midwives aim to help address these gaps by bringing essential medical assistance closer to the community. The project also seeks to strengthen local support systems so that the infrastructure created can continue to serve residents in the long run.

A key distinction of the initiative lies in its emphasis on building an ecosystem rather than providing one-time assistance. From establishing essential facilities to creating livelihood opportunities and helping communities develop the systems needed to maintain them, the project reflects a more holistic approach to community development.

For Priya and Sid, the experience also brought a different dimension to their work as travel creators. Known for documenting experiences and collaborating with brands across categories, the couple found themselves using their platform to highlight a cause centred on collective action and the impact of small, accessible contributions.

Their participation stemmed, in part, from a deeply personal experience. Every year on Sid’s birthday, he donates blood. Last year, he invited Priya to join him, despite her long-standing fear of needles. She documented the experience, sharing her apprehensions and encouraging conversations around blood donation. The video, along with a series documenting the couple’s van-building journey, caught the attention of MrBeast’s team and contributed to their selection for the Ghana initiative.

Speaking about the connection, Sid said, “Donating is a small act that helps many. Jimmy saw our blood donation video and our van build series and was keen to have us. I do love building, and it was great to get our hands dirty.”

The experience reinforced a message that resonated throughout their time on the project: making a difference does not always require financial resources. Everyday acts, when shared thoughtfully, can encourage others to participate and contribute in ways available to them.

Beyond the work itself, the week offered Priya and Sid an opportunity to connect with creators from across the world, exchange ideas and understand the thinking behind an initiative of this scale. They also witnessed the extensive production operation documenting the project, with a large crew capturing the process for upcoming videos that will bring the village-building journey to a global audience.

For Priya, however, the most memorable part of the experience was the relationships she built with the people she met along the way and the emotional impact of seeing the project come together. Reflecting on the village’s reveal, she said, “We showed up every day and made the sweetest of friends. These kids have become my best of best friends, and these women welcomed me like no one else. On reveal day, I don’t even know how to explain the excitement. I have never experienced anything like this. It made my heart so happy. Make kindness viral. There are so many things that go viral in this world. I just hope that we’ve made some sort of tiny impact on the world.”

For Priya and Sid, the experience was a reminder that the potential of digital influence extends beyond reach and engagement. When platforms are used to spotlight meaningful initiatives, they can help make important conversations more accessible and inspire people to take action in their own communities.

As the project moves towards its next phase, the larger story is not simply about building a village, but about laying the groundwork for a community equipped with the infrastructure, opportunities and support systems to build a more sustainable future.
