New Delhi : Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up North India’s first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine powered by Brainlab’s Loop-X® Mobile Imaging Robot, strengthening access to cutting-edge technology-enabled neurosurgical and spine care in the region.
The dedicated centre will bring together Amrita Hospital’s clinical expertise in neurology and Brainlab’s intraoperative imaging and surgical navigation technologies. It will be used for complex operations on the brain and spine, as well as a platform for clinical training, technology demonstrations and the sharing of knowledge between surgeons and health care professionals.
The centre will be based on Loop-X®, a robotic mobile imaging system providing 2D and 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images inside the operating room. This gives surgical teams detailed images during surgery that can be integrated with navigation technology to guide surgery and confirm results before the patient leaves the operating room.
Intraoperative imaging allows the surgeon to visualise the anatomy, verify the placement of any implants and acquire new images as necessary. This is particularly important in complex brain and spine surgery where accuracy is paramount. Loop-X® also offers patient-specific imaging, by concentrating the scan on the area to be treated, helping to optimise radiation exposure.

Loop-X® combines robotic positioning with 2D and 3D intra-operative imaging, providing a scalable field of view that can be adapted to clinical needs. Its large gantry opening allows for different patient positions and its robotic design allows imaging to be repeated during a procedure when clinically required.
The technology can supply surgical teams with current anatomical information, without the interruption of traditional imaging outside the OR that disrupts the operative workflow, by combining intraoperative images with Brainlab’s navigation ecosystem.
As a part of the Centre of Excellence, Brainlab and Amrita Hospital seek to establish a dedicated hub for advanced brain and spine surgery, clinical learning and technology-enabled surgical innovation, while increasing access to specialised care in neuro and spine for patients across North India.
