The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the due date for filing income-tax returns for Assessment Year 2026-27 for taxpayers covered under audit provisions. The I-T return filing deadline has been extended from October 31 to November 21, 2026.
The corresponding deadline for furnishing the tax audit report has also been extended from September 30 to October 21, 2026. The extension applies to specified taxpayers covered under Section 139 of the Income-tax Act, 1961. The CBDT said the extension will provide additional time to the specified taxpayers to complete their return filing. A formal order or notification giving effect to the decision will be issued separately.
Under the revised timeline, applicable taxpayers will have to furnish their audit reports by October 21, followed by filing of their income-tax returns by November 21, 2026.
