PUNE – Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, Pune, has introduced a new B.Sc. Forensic Science (Hons.) programme under its School of Pharmacy and Research, with admissions now open for the 2026-27 academic year. It’s a full 4-year, 8-semester program, worth 160 credits, built entirely on the NEP 2020 framework, offering flexible academic exposure and multiple career outcomes across criminal justice and investigative sciences.
Dnyaan Prasad Global University School of Pharmacy and Research (DPGU SPR), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, Pune, was established in 1994. It offers programmes including Pharm.D, Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate), B.Pharm, Direct Second Year B.Pharm, B.Pharm + MBA (Pharma Tech), M.Pharm, M.Sc. Pharma Analysis, D.Pharm, an Advanced Diploma in AI and Computational Drug Discovery, an Advanced Certificate Course in Clinical Trials and Pharmacovigilance, and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The new forensic science course adds to this list.
The B.Sc. Forensic Science (Hons.) programme combines classroom teaching with laboratory training, crime scene methods, evidence collection and forensic documentation. Students will study forensic biology, forensic chemistry, forensic toxicology, digital and cyber forensics, fingerprint analysis, ballistics, handwriting examination and crime scene investigation, alongside legal awareness and report-writing skills.
Speaking on the launch, Dr. Somnath P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor, Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, Pune, said: “Forensic science sits at the intersection of scientific rigour and public service. With this programme, we want to give students the laboratory exposure and legal grounding they need to genuinely contribute to justice delivery in this country, not just hold a degree.”
Eligibility requires candidates to have passed Class 12 with at least 45 percent marks in PCB or PCMB from a recognized board. Students who complete 2 semesters can earn a Certificate in Forensic Science Fundamentals; those completing 4 semesters receive a Diploma in Forensic Science. If you complete 6 semesters, then you’ll get a full B.Sc. degree; and completing all 8 semesters, along with a research dissertation, will earn you a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Forensic Science.
Graduates can pursue careers as forensic scientists, crime scene investigators, forensic toxicologists, forensic lab technicians, legal consultants, medicolegal experts, environmental toxicologists, digital forensics analysts, and research associates, or advance their education through M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes.
