Mangaldai : On the penultimate day of filing of nominations for second phase of polls, a total of six candidates filed their nomination papers in four assembly seats under Darrang district on March 11 . Prominent among them are BJP candidate and sitting MLA, Gurujyoti Das for SC reserved Mangaldai seat , BJP candidate and former President of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi for Sipajhar and AIUDF state leader Mojibur Rahman for Dalgaon respectively.
Three others who also filed nominations on the day are Paheswari Baruah (SUCI) and Sahanur Ali (IND) both for the Sipajhar seat and Gwmbwr Mosahari (IND) for Kalaigaon assembly constituency and with this the total figure of nominations filed in the district has raised to seven. Earlier on Wednesday Sudhendu Mohan Talukdar (Bharatiya Gana Parishad ) filed his nomination paper for Kalaigaon . Meanwhile Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma and Mangaldai Loksabha MP Dilip Saikia on March 11 ,addressed a poll rally for their party candidate of Sipajhar Paramanada Rajbongshi.
The rally organized at Sipajhar Academy playground witnessed an unprecedented low turnout. Earlier BJP leaders arrived at the venue by choppers . On the other hand Basanta Das Congress candidate and former State Minister was accorded a warm welcome by party’s rank and file here at Mangaldai Rajib Bhavan on the day after he was given party ticket for Mangaldai seat on the previous night. Similarly Congress party workers and supporters took out a massive bike rally at Sipajhar for their party candidate Ku;ldeep Baruah for the constituency where the sitting BJP MLA Binanda Kumar Saikia was denied party ticket this time .
