New Delhi: The Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI), in collaboration with the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) and Scottish Salmon, brought together Scottish salmon producers, Indian seafood importers, executive chefs and hospitality professionals for an industry roundtable, B2B matchmaking showcase and networking reception at The Imperial, New Delhi. The engagement focused on exploring commercial opportunities for Scottish salmon in India and strengthening trade connections across the retail and hospitality sectors.
The initiative facilitated 33 direct B2B trade interactions between major Scottish salmon producers, including Scottish Sea Farms, Mowi Scotland, Bakkafrost Scotland and Loch Duart, and established Indian importers and distributors. Discussions covered sourcing opportunities, cold-chain requirements, import compliance protocols and distribution channels, with a focus on understanding the requirements for bringing premium seafood products to the Indian market.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr Amit Lohani, Founder Director, FIFI, said, “India presents significant opportunities for international food producers, but converting that potential into sustainable business requires a clear understanding of the market, import regulations, supply-chain requirements and the needs of Indian buyers. Direct interactions between producers and importers help bridge this gap by enabling businesses to evaluate sourcing possibilities and build reliable trade relationships. Through such engagements, FIFI aims to facilitate meaningful connections that strengthen food import channels and expand choices for India’s hospitality and food service industry.”
The networking reception featured addresses by Ms Penny Rogers, Agriculture, Food & Drink Attaché at the British High Commission in India; Dr Kishore Jayaraman, Group CEO of UKIBC; Mr James Park, Head of International Trade and Engagement at Scottish Salmon; and Mr Amit Lohani, Founder Director of FIFI. The speakers highlighted the growing commercial relationship between India and the United Kingdom and the importance of direct business engagement in translating bilateral trade frameworks into practical commercial opportunities.
For India’s hospitality industry, access to reliable international sourcing networks is an important consideration in procurement and menu planning. Direct engagement between producers, importers and hospitality professionals helps businesses assess product requirements, understand supply-chain considerations and explore potential routes to market.
The initiative reinforces FIFI’s role in facilitating international food trade by connecting global producers with Indian importers and hospitality stakeholders, helping build commercial relationships and explore opportunities for long-term collaboration.
