‘GauSort’ Gender-Sorted Semen Launched for Farmer Members of Maahi MPO

Gujarat : Maahi Milk Producer Organisation (Maahi MPO) has launched the indigenous gender-sorted semen technology, ‘GauSort’, for the benefit of its farmer members. The initiative was inaugurated by Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and NDDB Dairy Services (NDS), in the presence of the Board Members of Maahi MPO. The initiative will help farmers achieve a higher number of female calf births, improve breed quality and enhance the profitability of dairy farming.

GauSort is an affordable, indigenously developed gender-sorted semen technology created in India by the National Dairy Development Board with the support of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. Implemented under the National Gokul Mission, the technology represents a significant step towards promoting scientific livestock breeding in the dairy sector. It increases the likelihood of producing a greater number of high-quality female calves, thereby contributing to higher future milk production and improved farmer incomes. NDDB Dairy Services (NDS) is providing technical support for the effective implementation of this initiative and the expansion of related services to farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman, NDDB and NDDB Dairy Services, said, “GauSort technology is an important initiative towards scientific livestock management and self-reliant dairy development. It will play a significant role in enhancing productivity and strengthening farmers’ incomes in the dairy sector. The adoption of GauSort technology in the Maahi MPO operational area will improve the genetic quality of livestock, increase productivity and promote the sustainable growth of dairy farming. I am confident that farmers in Gujarat will embrace GauSort and further strengthen their dairy enterprises.”

Notably, Maahi MPO operates a Doorstep Veterinary Health Service (DVHS) under the name ‘Maahi Pashu Seva’, recognising the health and productivity needs of livestock. Under this programme, farmers receive doorstep services related to animal health, breeding, nutrition and livestock management. Through this digital platform-based service, animal health records are maintained and farmers are provided with timely and quality veterinary care. Currently, the service reaches thousands of milk-producing farmers and is contributing to better animal health, higher productivity and the promotion of scientific livestock management.

The GauSort facility will be delivered to Maahi MPO farmer members through the Doorstep Veterinary Health Service, Maahi Pashu Seva, with the objective of enabling better livestock quality, improved dairy management practices and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
