General Manager holds Meeting with Hon’ble MPs in the jurisdiction of Thiruvananthapuram Division

 Thiruvananthapuram: Southern Railway Highlights Completed and Ongoing Works across Thiruvananthapuram Division Constituencies in response to MPs’ Suggestions

In a meeting held today (16.05.2025) between the General Manager, Southern Railway and Hon’ble Members of Parliament, key development works—both completed and ongoing—pertaining to various constituencies under the Thiruvananthapuram Division were reviewed and appraised to the Hon’ble MPs. The meeting reflected Southern Railway’s continued commitment to improving passenger amenities and infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by the following Hon’ble Members of Parliament of the region served by Thiruvananthapuram Division.

Shri R.N. Singh, General Manager welcomed the Hon’ble MPs and provided an overview of the functioning of Southern Railway. He detailed the recent achievements and various initiatives taken to enhance passenger amenities across the zone.  Shri Dr. Manish Thaplyal, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, along with Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway, also participated in the meeting.

The Hon’ble MPs deliberated on various issues including introduction of new trains, provision of additional stoppages, progress on new railway line constructions, extensions of existing services, station development, doubling and electrification works, construction of Road Over Bridges/Road Under Bridges, improvement of passenger amenities, and land acquisition for railway projects. They also offered valuable suggestions for the further development of the Thiruvananthapuram Division and improvement of services.

Highlights of Constituency-wise works completed/ongoing in Trivandrum Division jurisdiction:

Attingal Constituency

Thiruvananthapuram Division has implemented numerous development works in the Attingal Constituency, covering 10 stations. Noteworthy among the completed works are platform raising at Kappil, Edavai, and Varkala Sivagiri, and redevelopment of Chirayinkeezh under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Major ongoing works include station redevelopment at Varkala Sivagiri, development of Thiruvananthapuram South as a coaching terminal, and platform-related improvements at Kappil and Akathumuri.

Tirunelveli Constituency

Focused efforts have been made to enhance passenger convenience in Tirunelveli Constituency. Platform shelters have been provided at Sengulam, Nanguneri, and North Panakudi, lighting improvements and platform raising done at Valliyur. Ongoing works include construction of toilets for Divyangjan passengers at Nanguneri station.

Kanniyakumari Constituency

Railway infrastructure in the Kanniyakumari Constituency is witnessing sustained improvements. Completed works include station redevelopment at Kulitturai under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, new toilets at Palliyadi, and passenger lifts at Nagercoil Town. Redevelopment of key stations such as Nagercoil Junction and Kanyakumari under Amrit Station Scheme is progressing, with escalators, platform shelters, and other modern amenities under implementation.  Doubling of Nagercoil Town- Nagercoil Jn- Kanniyakumari has been completed as part of Thiruvananthapuram- Kanniyakumari Doubling project.

Thiruvananthapuram Constituency

Major station development works have been undertaken in the Thiruvananthapuram Constituency. Thiruvananthapuram North saw comprehensive infrastructure upgrades including platform extension and shelters, water recycling plant, and lifts. Redevelopment of Thiruvananthapuram Central and Neyyattinkara stations is progressing, while passenger amenities have been enhanced at Thiruvananthapuram Pettah and Kazhakkuttom. Parassala station also received new toilet facilities.

Kollam Constituency

Kollam Constituency has seen focused enhancement of facilities. Completed works include installation of 10-seater benches and a foot over bridge at Kollam Junction. The station is undergoing major redevelopment along with water supply augmentation. Other stations like Mayyanad, Paravur, and Perinad have seen platform improvements and roofing works.

Mavelikkara Constituency

Extensive upgradation is underway in Mavelikkara Constituency. Changanassery and Mavelikkara stations are being redeveloped under ABSS with additional passenger lifts and platform shelters. Stations like Chengannur, Sasthankotta, and Munroturuttu have seen significant facility improvements including toilet upgrades, shelter provisions, and foot over bridges.

Pathanamthitta Constituency

Tiruvalla station is being redeveloped with escalators, platform shelters, and improved passenger amenities. Recent upgrades include re-roofing of shelters, new toilets, benches, and enhanced parking facilities.

Alappuzha Constituency

Alappuzha Constituency has witnessed widespread development. Major stations like Alappuzha and Kayankulam Junction are being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Scheme with lifts, waiting rooms, and upgraded roofing. Numerous smaller stations in the constituency have benefited from platform paving, new shelters, and improved drinking water and Divyangjan facilities.

Kottayam Constituency

Modernization efforts in Kottayam Constituency are progressing steadily. Kottayam station is undergoing comprehensive redevelopment including a new second entry, lifts, escalators, and improved platform surfaces. Other stations like Ettumannur and Mulanturutti have seen infrastructure upgrades including platform shelter and platform raising.

Ernakulam Constituency

Ernakulam is emerging as a major hub with large-scale redevelopment underway at both Ernakulam Town and Junction. Kalamasseri and Idappalli stations have seen platform raisings and enhancements to Divyangjan facilities. Thrippunithura station is also being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with new lifts and passenger amenities.

Chalakkudi Constituency

Several infrastructure improvements have been completed and initiated across nine stations in Chalakkudi Constituency. Chalakudi and Angamali are undergoing redevelopment under ABSS, while stations like Nellayi, Irinjalakuda, and Divine Nagar are seeing improvements in provision of platform shelter, water supply, and facilities for Divyangjan passengers.

Thrissur Constituency

Focusing passenger and pilgrim comfort, Guruvayur station is being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Thrissur station saw improvements to surfaces and platform shelters. Mini shelters and Divyangjan-friendly facilities were also added at Punkunnam, Ollur, and Pudukkad.

Alathur Constituency

In Alathur Constituency, stations like Wadakkancheri are being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with platform shelters, benches, and tactile paving. Platform raisings, mini-type shelters, and drinking water facilities have also been provided across Vallathol Nagar, Mullurcarai, and Mulankunnathukavu stations.
