NEW DELHI — GoTrust, a DPDPA-focused data governance and trust solutions provider, in collaboration with DPO Club, India’s premier community for privacy professionals, today announced the official release of the INDIA PRIVACY SALARY REPORT. The benchmark study offers the first comprehensive, data-driven analysis of compensation, certifications, and career trajectories within India’s rapidly evolving data protection landscape.
As Indian enterprises aggressively align operations with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) mandates, the report reveals a highly optimistic five-year outlook, projecting the creation of more than 60,000 new privacy and data protection roles by May 2027.
While the career outlook remains robust, the report uncovers unique operational and compensation structures defining the Indian market:
● Zero Variable Pay: A striking 71% of privacy professionals in India are compensated primarily through fixed salaries with zero variable pay or performance-linked bonuses, with variable incentives typically reserved only for senior DPO or CISO roles in massive enterprises.
● Severely Lean Teams: 66% of privacy professionals operate in lean teams of five or fewer members. This resource-constrained ecosystem forces individual professionals to wear multiple hats across legal, technical, and compliance domains.
● The Rise of AI Governance: In response to expanding technology mandates, the AIGP (AI Governance Professional) credential has emerged as the fastest-growing certification cited by professionals as a key differentiator for career progression and title uplift.
Experience remains the definitive driver for baseline compensation, with 55% of established professionals (7–10 years) commanding between ₹35L–₹50L, and senior veterans (11+ years) drawing upwards of ₹50L–₹80L.
“What stands out in this report isn’t just where salaries are today—it’s where the profession is headed,” said Himanshu Gautam, Founder & CEO of GoTrust. “With 60,000+ new privacy roles projected by 2027, the next few years will define how seriously India treats data protection as a strategic function. The organizations that read this data and act on it now will be the ones setting the benchmark later.”
