Govt assures fertilizer availability in country remains sufficient for Kharif 2026 season

The government has reassured that fertilizer availability in the country remains sufficient, with supplies continuing to exceed requirements for the Kharif 2026 season. Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi today, Additional Secretary in the Department of Fertilizers, Aparna Sharma, said that the domestic production of fertilizers has reached 62.37 LMT, while imports stand at about 15.39 LMT, taking total availability to around 78 LMT during the current period. She informed that global tenders have been floated to secure 38 LMT of urea and 19 LMT of phosphatic and potassic fertilizers. She emphasized that fertilizer security in the country remains strong, stable and well managed.

Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma, said that there is an uninterrupted supply of LPG, petrol and diesel across the country. She stated that the domestic LPG supply is fully assured and no distributor is facing any dry-out situation. She said online LPG booking has increased to around 98 per cent, while about 93 per cent of deliveries are being authenticated through OTP. She added that around 43 thousand consumers have voluntarily surrendered their LPG connections in favour of PNG. She urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information.

Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mukesh Mangal, said that all the seafarers in the region are safe and no incident involving Indian sea vessels has been reported in the last 24 hours. Mr Mangal said that the Ministry has facilitated the safe repatriation of more than two thousand eight hundred Indian seafarers so far, including 28 in the last 24 hours. The Additional Secretary further said that port operations across the country remain normal and no congestion has been reported.
