The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for rain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand for the next 36 hours, while a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts.
According to the department, there is a possibility of hailstorms and gusty winds in various parts of the state during this period. Snowfall has also been forecast in areas situated at an altitude of more than 4,000 metres.
The Meteorological Department has advised Char Dham pilgrims to undertake their journey only after checking the weather forecast.
They have also been urged to stay in safe locations in case of adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Meteorological Department forecast light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir today, while advising people to suspend boating and farm operations during the period.
The MeT department said the weather remained generally cloudy across many places today with intermittent spells of rain and thundershowers at most places.
There is a possibility of hailstorm, thunder, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 50-60 kmph at a few places in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, mainly during afternoon, evening and night hours.
The department advised people to suspend boating and shikara riding during the afternoon and late afternoon hours in view of gusty winds over water bodies. Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations till May 13.
According to the MeT office, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy with brief showers from May 13 to 17, while light rain and thundershowers are likely at scattered places on May 18.
From May 19 to 21, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy.
Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 24.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, slightly above the normal of 24.3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 14 degrees Celsius, 3.1 degrees above normal.
Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, which was 4.1 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 20.2 degrees Celsius.
