Incident at Kollam Junction Railway Station:  Immediate Medical Attention Provided for Injured Passengers

Kollam: An unfortunate incident occurred at 09:47 hrs. on Friday at Kollam Junction Railway Station, wherein a scaffolding pipe from the construction site of the ongoing station redevelopment project became dislodged and, after falling on the installed protective safety mesh, came towards Platform No. 1 near the Thiruvananthapuram-end, passing over the high-level safety fencing. Despite the presence of mandated safety structures such as fencing and protective mesh, the impact resulted in injuries to two persons.

Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and station staff responded with immediacy and efficiency, ensuring that the injured were swiftly shifted to the nearest District Hospital, Kollam, for prompt first aid and medical evaluation. The quick response made by station officials in this unfortunate incident facilitated prompt medical attention and recovery for both the passengers.

The Senior-most Railway Doctor from Kollam, along with railway officials were present at the hospital and overseeing the treatment and ensuring proper care being provided. Senior officials of Southern Railway closely monitored the situation and ensured that the injured passengers received the best possible medical attention.

A detailed enquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the incident. Safety of passengers remains the highest priority. Accordingly, preventive protocols at construction sites within station premises will be rigorously reviewed and further tightened.
