Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Tehran is open to negotiations with the United States but remains cautious about Washington. He said Iran would honour its commitments if the US also upheld its side of the agreement. In a TV interview, Pezeshkian said diplomatic efforts could focus on reviving the June peace memorandum of understanding (MoU).
He noted that Iran had exported nearly 90 million barrels of oil while the agreement was being implemented. Pezeshkian’s comments came as Iran continues to grapple with economic pressures at home. In a separate message, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei called for “serious” attention to economic and livelihood challenges, including inflation, unemployment and the management of prices and markets.
He also backed greater reliance on domestic production, while calling for imports to be used “properly and wisely” where necessary. The US and Iran signed the deal on June 18 to end the war in the region on all fronts, including Lebanon. The MoU called for negotiations within 60 days, with the deadline ending on August 17. The talks were intended to lead to a final agreement, but their future remains uncertain after tensions escalated last month.
