Jal Shakti Minister writes to Maharashtra CM for faster execution of mission

Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is regularly monitoring the Government’s flagship programme, Jal Jeevan Mission-JJM. He is  also in touch with the states for speedy implementation of this ambitious mission. Mr Shekhawat, has written a  letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for faster execution of the mission in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced Jal Jeevan Mission from the ramparts of Red Fort on 15th August 2019 with an aim to provide every rural household with functional household tap connections (FHTCs) by 2024.

The Minister in his letter assured the Central Government’s commitment to provide all assistance to the State Government in ensuring potable water service delivery to all households as envisaged under the Mission. Jal Shakti Ministry in a statement said that, in 2019-20, Maharashtra had provided tap connections to 5.45 lakh households as against the target of 16.26 lakh tap connections. It said, the Central Government has approved around 1,829 crore rupees for implementation of JJM in the state during 2020-21.

Minister of Jal Shakti has assured the Maharashtra Chief Minister of full cooperation to make the state a 100 per cent functional households tap connections by 2024.
