Maverick & Farmer Unveils Bengaluru’s Largest Experiential Coffee Destination in Kothanur

Bengaluru : Some cafés are made for quick coffee runs. Others ask you to stay awhile. Maverick & Farmer’s new space in Kothanur feels like the latter.

Set inside a restored residence in North Bengaluru, the artisanal coffee brand’s newest experience centre and café unfolds gradually. Sunlight moves across terracotta walls, the steady churn of a coffee roaster folds into the hum of the room, thick with chatter and the heady aroma of freshly roasted coffee. At over 9,000 sq. ft., it is Maverick & Farmer’s largest outlet, housing a live roastery, coffee academy, retail space, community centre, and café.

It brings Maverick & Farmer’s relationship with coffee closer to the city, connecting guests intimately to the journey that begins in South India’s coffee-growing regions and ends, eventually, in the cup.

The Coffee At Maverick & Farmer

Before the pour-over arrives at the table or the espresso finds its way into a ceramic cup, there is the bean. At Maverick & Farmer, coffee begins at origin.

Sourced from estates across India, the brand’s coffees prominently feature beans from Nellikad Estate in Coorg. At the estate and while sourcing their beans – both Arabica and Robusta – the brand emphasizes quality, sustainability, and pioneering processing techniques such as cold-smoking, custom fruit fermentations, and honey sun-drying. Their diverse blend portfolio features signature offerings like the ‘Parama’, a luxury chocolate-and-caramel noted house blend designed by Sunalini Menon, ‘Sunkissed’ an award-winning, honey sun-dried specialty Robusta, ‘Ol’ Smoky’, the world’s first cold-smoked coffee, a unique cold-smoked coffee, and Rohan Bopanna’s Masterblend, a single-estate Arabica from the tennis legend’s estate in Coorg. To preserve farm-fresh quality and lock in rich, aromatic profiles, all beans are roasted daily at their facility in Bangalore and ground fresh to order.

“Coffee carries stories of the land, the people who grow it, and the care that goes into every stage of the process,” says Ashish D’abreo, Co-Founder, Q Grader and Coffee Roaster at Maverick & Farmer Coffee. “With Kothanur, we wanted to create a space where people could experience coffee in a more engaging way not just by drinking it, but by being closer to the process and spending time with it to really explore, experience, and discover coffee over a play-area of 9000 square feet, the largest in the city.”

The cafe menu moves easily between familiar comforts and maverick drinks like the  Clarified Cappuccino, the zesty Spresso Citron, and the refreshingly complex Maverick Mazagran, which invite a second look. Maverick & Farmer is leading the charge in rediscovering India’s rich pantry of indigenous ingredients. While most specialty coffee brands look outward for inspiration, Maverick & Farmer has consistently turned inwards, experimenting with local Indian flavours, seasonal ingredients, and agricultural heritage.

The Roastery

The Roastery is intentional and difficult to miss. Housed within a soaring triple-height volume, the live roastery sits beside the café and separated by a glass wall, visible from different corners of the space.

There is something quietly compelling about watching coffee transform in real time. Beans tumble, colour deepens, aromas shift. Here, all the coffee for the cafes, retail and B2B, roasts on a daily basis in two massive state-of-the-art roasting machines. The Roastery also houses an entire section dedicated to the South East Asian Kopi – a Hainanese style of coffee, freshly roasted with a specialised machinery designed by the Maverick & Farmer team.

Guided Roastery Tours are available and visitors are recommended to call ahead to schedule a booking for a tour of the roastery.

Food At Maverick & Farmer

Coffee may lead the way, but the food knows how to hold its own.

The menu at Kothanur is designed for long mornings, working lunches, lingering afternoons, and easy evenings. Familiar dishes arrive with thoughtful touches, portions made for sharing sit comfortably beside solo plates, and everything is designed to work naturally with the coffee experience.

Some guests stop in for breakfast and stay through lunch. Others may settle into a quiet corner with a coffee and find themselves ordering something small, then something sweet. The menu leaves room for both.

The Space At Kothanur

Built in layers, a series of spaces reveal themselves gradually across levels, stairways, and pockets of light.

Designed by Balan and Nambisan Architects – led by Arun Balan, Shruthi Sanghvi, and Anagha Nair – the space was envisioned as Maverick & Farmer’s flagship roastery and café in Bengaluru, designed as a place that feels immersive rather than hurried.

The original home was carefully transformed, preserving much of its warmth and familiarity while introducing a quieter, more contemporary language. Brick cladding brings a gentle rawness to the interiors, while terracotta under-clad tiles and expansive glass soften the experience with warmth, texture, and changing light through the day. The aesthetic leans easy modern, though not overly polished. There is texture here, a play between old and new, rawness and warmth, volume and intimacy.

Across multiple levels, the café shifts naturally between moods – tables for quick coffee stops, quieter corners for long working hours, flexible community areas for workshops and gatherings, and even a conference room tucked into the experience for more focused conversations.

A Place For Community

For Maverick & Farmer, cafés have always been about more than coffee. They are places people return to – sometimes for a quick cup before work, sometimes for long conversations that stretch into the afternoon.

Kothanur was designed with that rhythm in mind. Equipped with flexible furniture and acoustic partitions, the space easily adapts from an open workshop or coffee academy into a private conference room

The Roastery forms the visual anchor of the space and the cafe sits next to it. Shrouded in sunlight and decorated with plants, the vibe is cheerful and upbeat. The first floor has a conference room for meetings and collaborative sessions, podcast studio alongside flexible open areas that can host community events, creative gatherings, and intimate workshops.

The 100 seater Kothanur Community Centre, on the topmost floor, opens into an expansive space dedicated to Maverick & Farmer’s coffee academy – a setting for workshops, tastings, brewing sessions, and conversations around coffee culture. It also doubles up as a venue for theatre troupes, musicians and artists and can be used for performances and community events.

“We’ve always believed that a lot can happen over coffee,” says Sreeram Gangadharan, Co-Founder of Maverick & Farmer Coffee. “Kothanur, our largest cafe yet, feels like a place where people can spend time whether that’s learning something new about coffee, catching up with friends, or simply taking a break from the day. Our community is important to us and this new outlet celebrates the friends of Maverick & Farmer by giving them a platform to connect and practice their craft.”

The Retail Experience

Sitting adjacent to the coffee bar, the retail shelves are lined with the entire range of the brand’s coffee beans sourced from estates across the country, elaborate brewing equipment for coffee nerds and accessories that grab a second look, making it easy for guests to continue the ritual at home.
