MUMBAI: Mumbai Mayor Smt. Ritu Tawde made a surprise visit to Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Municipal Corporation Hospital located in Jogeshwari (East) today (19 August 2026) evening and inspected the medical system. During the inspection, Mayor Smt. Tawde gave various instructions to the hospital administration.
First of all, the Mayor visited the registration room of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana on the ground floor. This room should be kept functional for 24 hours, not limited to 8 am to 4 pm. The Mayor instructed that other documents should not be forced on patients holding Ayushman card.
After that, the Mayor inspected the Accident and Emergency Department, as well as the Pediatric Department, Women’s Medical Department, Men’s Medical Department, etc. on the ninth and tenth floors and questioned all the patients. The Mayor interacted with the patients, asking questions such as whether the medical service provided by the doctors and nurses is satisfactory or not, whether the quality of food provided to the patients is appropriate or not, whether medicines are available, whether cleanliness is maintained, etc. Not only this, the Mayor himself checked the quality of the food provided to the patients. Mayor Mrs. Tawde gave instructions to immediately improve the quality of the food.
The Mayor instructed the hospital administration to maintain good cleanliness in the entire hospital and in all departments, communicate affectionately with the patients, make all medicines available to the patients on time, etc. He also said that the hospital should be informed about the manpower required, health facilities, and other needs.
After that, Mayor Smt. Tawde went to the DSA Cathlab on the second floor and inspected the state-of-the-art plant and system in the Neurosurgery Department. She informed the local citizens that she will follow up by writing a letter to the Municipal Corporation administration to appoint full-time doctors and medical staff for this department.
The contractual employees of the hospital submitted a memorandum to Mayor Smt. Ritu Tawde regarding their various demands and problems and expressed their views. The Mayor assured that a joint meeting will be organized with the Municipal Corporation administration to resolve the problems of the contractual employees and contractual doctors.
During this inspection, Dean Dr. (Smt.) Chhaya Shinde, Medical Superintendent Dr. Niranjan Kshirsagar as well as the concerned medical officers, employees, and junior medical staff were present.
