Merck inaugurates Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru to advance digital transformation and enterprise innovation

BENGALURU  — Merck, a science and technology company, opened its Merck Global Capability Centre (MGCC) in Electronic City, Bengaluru, bringing together its existing India technology and services operations.

The integrated campus will house ~3300 professionals from across the company’s data, digital, process, and technology functions, further strengthening collaboration and innovation across businesses. Purpose-built across 17,000 sq.m. at the heart of Bengaluru’s technology corridor, the campus features innovation labs, neurodiversity zones and collaborative workspaces designed to attract the best technical minds and enable them to do their finest work. The state-of-the-art campus marks a significant milestone in Merck India’s journey to foster greater integration, agility, and innovation through a more connected and future-ready workplace.

At the heart of the new centre is Digital Enterprise Solutions (DES). As the organisation responsible for process optimization, enterprise platforms, data and AI, technology infrastructure, hyperautomation and process excellence, DES enables Merck to operate as one connected digital enterprise rather than a collection of siloed functions.

Locating the largest concentration of DES capabilities within the MGCC reflects a strategic intent: Bengaluru is a core node in Merck’s global digital operating model. From here, DES teams design, build and run enterprise wide solutions that support R&D, manufacturing, supply chains, commercial operations and enabling functions across geographies.

“The Merck Global Capability Centre is much more than an operational hub – it is a strategic engine for our digital enterprise. By bringing data, technology and process teams under one roof here, we are strengthening the foundation needed to scale innovation faster, improve agility and deliver greater impact across Merck’s global businesses,” said Alessandro De Luca, head of Digital Enterprise Solutions and group CIO, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

The Bengaluru campus also houses business technologies, teams focused on digital innovation for Merck’s Life Science, Healthcare and Electronics businesses. Together, these capabilities create a cross-functional centre of excellence spanning AI, analytics, automation and enterprise technology to support innovation across healthcare, life science and electronics.

The MGCC reinforces India’s growing role in Merck’s global innovation ecosystem, with the country now serving as the company’s fourth-largest workforce hub after Germany, the United States and China. Building on nearly six decades in India since 1967, the new centre strengthens Merck’s long-term commitment to the country, to play a larger role in shaping the company’s next wave of global innovation, digital capability and business impact.
