Non official holiday for govt employees in Darrang

Mangaldai : Despite the hectic schedule following  the declaration of the notification for the election in 8 Mangaldoi HPC and the ongoing process of NRC verification, the  officials and staff of  almost all the State Government offices running in the district head quarter of Darrang district Mangaldai  barring  very few  on Friday  i.e.  the second day of celebration of ‘Holi’ availed a non official and undeclared holiday as the district administration allegedly failed to  the clarify the confusion over the announcement of  local holiday.

On Thursday the Deputy Commissioners of some neighboring districts in view of the ‘Holi’ celebration had declared local holiday on Friday . A good number of employees as well as officials on hearing the official holiday on Friday as per the provisions of the NI Act in the neighboring district  did not turn up in the respective offices and enjoyed a full holiday. However, a section of officials and employees who got a clarification  attended the office.

Apart from  the banks, Deputy Commissioner’s office, SP’s office, Joint Director of Health  a group of media persons found  majority of  other the government offices  with doors open but hardly any attendance. This Correspondent along with one of his media colleague while visiting the office of the

Project Director of DRDA, Darrang and several other government offices at about 1.12 pm found not a single employee or official in the office. Significantly the main gate of the office of the Circle

Officer of Mangaldai Revenue Circle in the heart of the town along the NH was found closed under lock and key. However, the Circle Officer was seen in the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The office of the Zila Parishad was also found without any official or employee. A section of employees on promise of anonymity has  justified the absence of their colleagues  as nothing unprecedented  in view of the prevalence of the spirit of the  Holi festivity . In the same breadth  they argued that Deputy Commissioner could have declared   the day as a local holiday to avoid such confusing situation .
