The CII–Indian Green Building Council (CII–IGBC), a leading industry-driven organization advancing green building and sustainable development practices in India, organized the Green Saurashtra Summit 2026 under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Development through Practical Green Solutions.” The summit provided a collaborative platform for government, industry, real estate and built-environment stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase practical solutions and identify opportunities to promote resource-efficient, climate-responsive and sustainable development across the Saurashtra region.
The Summit highlighted the growing momentum for green buildings in Saurashtra, with 102 IGBC-rated projects covering approximately 0.35 billion sq ft of built-up area across the region. Residential and commercial developments constituted the principal categories, reflecting the increasing integration of green building practices into the region’s rapidly expanding built environment.
It examined how sustainable planning, resource efficiency, low-carbon construction, energy-conscious design and innovative green technologies could support the region’s continued urban and economic development. The programme brought together stakeholders from Rajkot, Morbi, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar and the wider Saurashtra region.
The 102 IGBC-rated projects represented an important milestone for Saurashtra’s built environment, demonstrating the growing demand for buildings that integrate sustainability into design, construction and operations. IGBC’s rating frameworks address areas including water efficiency, energy conservation, sustainable materials, waste management and occupant wellbeing.
Mr. Rushit Govani, Youth Rajkot Builders Association President, said, “The real estate sector in Saurashtra had a significant role to play in shaping the region’s future. The growing adoption of IGBC frameworks demonstrated that sustainability was becoming an important consideration for the next generation of developers and homebuyers. The industry needed to move from awareness to wider implementation by making energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials and healthier spaces part of mainstream development.”
Mr. Vishal Holani, Past Chairman, CII Gujarat Western Zone, emphasized on industry taking the lead for sustainable growth. Addressing the summit, he said, “Sustainable growth and industrial competitiveness had become closely connected. For Saurashtra, the opportunity was to combine its strong entrepreneurial and industrial base with resource-efficient technologies and green infrastructure. Industry could accelerate this transition by investing in energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable materials and innovative solutions that delivered both environmental and economic value.”
Mr. Kunal Gol, Chairman, IGBC Rajkot Chapter & Director, Elixir Realty set the context when he said, “Saurashtra is at an important juncture in its growth journey, and the choices we make today will shape the region’s built environment for decades to come. With 102 IGBC-rated projects covering 0.35 billion sq ft, the region has already demonstrated a growing commitment to sustainable development. The next step is to scale this momentum by making green building practices, resource efficiency and climate-responsive design an integral part of mainstream development. The inaugural session focused on “Advancing Sustainable Development in Saurashtra”, with discussions covering the region’s green growth opportunity, sustainable real estate development and industry leadership for sustainable growth. The agenda also featured a special address by Mr. Chetan Nandani, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Rajkot Municipal Corporation.
A fireside chat on “Shaping a Sustainable Rajkot – Development, Infrastructure & the Built Environment” examined how sustainable planning, climate-responsive development, resource efficiency and green building practices could support Rajkot’s future growth.
The Summit also featured a panel discussion on “Sustainable Development in Saurashtra – From Vision to Action”, which explored low-carbon construction, emerging construction technologies, resource-efficient materials, energy-conscious design and sustainable building practices across real estate, hospitality and public development.
The final technical session focused on practical green solutions for water, energy, resources and wellbeing, including building performance, Net Zero pathways, next-generation glass technology and low-carbon construction solutions.
With 102 projects and 0.35 billion sq ft already contributing to the region’s green building footprint, the Summit underscored the opportunity for Saurashtra to scale sustainable development across residential, commercial, industrial and public infrastructure. The discussions called for continued collaboration among government, developers, architects, industry and citizens to turn green building principles into larger, measurable and region-wide action.
