Theme of International Day of Yoga 2026 to be Yoga for Healthy Aging, says MoS Prataprao Jadhav

The theme of International Day of Yoga 2026 to be observed on 21st of next month will be Yoga for Healthy Aging. Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge), Mr. Prataprao Jadhav said this while attending the “Yoga Mahotsav – 25-Day Countdown to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026” in Khajuraho today. 

The Minister emphasised that Yoga represents India’s ancient wisdom and plays a vital role in preventive healthcare and balanced living. He added  that to remain healthy and fit at an old age it is imperative to practice Yoga on a regular basis.

The Minister also noted that Yoga, an integral part of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage, has evolved into a global movement for holistic health and wellness following the United Nations’ adoption of the International Day of Yoga in 2014, after the initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. 

The Minister said that government is continuously working to take Yoga to every village, household, school, office and community through sustained outreach and public participation. Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, Mr Jadhav noted that Yoga and initiatives such as Ayush Aahar promote balanced nutrition, disciplined living and overall well-being. The main event of International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations will be held at Kolkata. 

On the occasion, the Minister relaunched the Yoga Sangam Portal to facilitate online registrations and strengthen public participation for IDY 2026, and launched the Yoga Park Portal to support the development of dedicated yoga spaces across states and institutions. He also unveiled a newly designed Yoga T-shirt promoting the message of yoga, health and wellness, and informed that over two lakh individuals have participated in the 100-day free Yoga training programme under the Yoga 365 Campaign, receiving Yog Mitra certification.
