ThunderPlus has announced the launch of its 0.5 MW public EV charging station at Kovvur on NH-16, strengthening charging infrastructure along the Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam corridor. Strategically located at the entry and exit points of the Greenfield Highway, the charging station is housed within the premises of The Godavari Hub, a highway restaurant and stopover, allowing EV users to conveniently recharge their vehicles while taking a break during their intercity journeys. The station is open to passenger cars, commercial vehicles and intercity electric buses, with 0.5 MW of charging capacity currently available. The station is supported by 24/7 power availability arrangements, ensuring uninterrupted charging access for all EV users, with round-the-clock availability being particularly important for intercity electric buses to charge as per their operational schedules and support uninterrupted services. ThunderPlus also plans to increase the station’s capacity to 1 MW shortly, further strengthening charging infrastructure along this important highway route.
The Kovvur facility is the latest addition to ThunderPlus’ growing network of highway charging hubs. The company is focusing on strategically located charging infrastructure along major intercity routes, with the aim of making EV charging more accessible to users travelling beyond urban centres.
For electric vehicle users, the availability of charging infrastructure along highways remains an important part of making intercity travel more practical. By locating charging hubs at established highway stopovers, ThunderPlus is creating charging points where travellers can recharge their vehicles as part of their journey.
The Kovvur station also forms part of ThunderPlus’ wider plan to expand its presence across major highways in Southern India. The company is working towards developing a network of charging hubs that can support passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and electric buses travelling between key destinations.
With electric mobility expanding beyond city limits, the development of charging infrastructure along important intercity corridors is becoming increasingly important. ThunderPlus’ highway-focused expansion is aimed at strengthening charging access and supporting the growing requirements of EV users undertaking longer-distance journeys.
