Washington: In the US Open tennis women’s singles semifinals, Serena Williams’s bid for a 24th Grand Slam singles title ended as Victoria Azarenka rolled back the years to reach the US Open final.
America’s Williams, seeking to equal the all-time record for majors, raced away with the first set but lost 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, to the inspired former world number one.
In another semi final, Naomi Osaka beat Jennifer Brady 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 to book a spot in her third Grand Slam final.
Belarusian Azarenka will face Japan’s Naomi Osaka in the final tomorrow.
