Kochi: In observance of World Mental Health Day, the Central Zone of the Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists – Kerala Region (IACP-KR), in association with Jain University, Kochi, is organizing a special program titled “The Open Mind.”
The event will be inaugurated by Hibi Eden, MP, on October 10 at the Jain university campus. The inaugural ceremony, starting at 9:00 AM, will feature addresses by Dr. Tom M. Joseph, Director- New Initiatives at Jain University, and Barsleeby Alex, President of IACP-KR. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring pediatric expert Dr. Thomas Renjith and K. Viswanath, Assistant Editor and author at Mathrubhumi, with the session moderated by Dr. Mithila Jos. At 11:45 AM, an “In Conversation” session will take place with Ramesh Pisharody MLA, alongside Zaileshia G., Program Convenor and IACP-KR Central Zone representative. Cultural performances by the Department of Psychology students of Jain University will also be a part of the program.
The event will mark the official launch of the “Be Happy Project” and “The Happiness Clinic,” initiatives aimed at enhancing student mental health, fostering positive human relationships on campuses, and building a healthier society. The project is designed around the core concepts of inclusion, empathy, and wellness.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Tom Joseph stated that “The Open Mind” aims to make discussions on mental health more transparent and accessible to the public through expert discussions and open dialogues, aligning with this year’s theme, “Listen to Their Voices: Real Voices, Real Change.” He added that the program seeks to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health, encourage individuals to seek timely treatment and support, and extend the significance of mental health beyond a single day to bring about meaningful change in society.
