On August 12, the world observed, ‘ International Youth Day’ & India joined the celebrations in style . This is a day when manyorganizations evaluate their human capital in youth power and make plans to draw on their energy and enthusiasm to carry out the objectives of the Organization.

One such Organization that is active in the field of Air conditioning and Refrigeration is ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers). This is a  technical Society with pan-India membership base of over 23000 , & they enthusiastically celebrated the International Youth Day by organizing a livelyPanel Discussion on the Youth capabilities , in particular to address national imperatives like improvement in energy efficiency& concern for Environment, in the Air conditioning and Refrigeration Industry (HVAC&R).

During the discussion, it was pointed out that out of the total energy available, only 12% gets converted into useful energy (source: Global Energy Sankey Diagram) and the Youth at ISHRAE were urged to come out with creative solutions to improve energy efficiency& thereby save on emissions ,plus  also suggest means for energy conservation wherever possible.

President ISHRAE Richie Mittal said, “We congratulate our youth members on conducting a fantastic Panel Discussion , and for continuously increasing their involvement ,as they are the Leaders for the future.”

The Panel decided that through ISHRAE’s 43 chapters all across India , this message of youth engagement in creative research & in assuming leadership roles should be spread and emphasized. The Youth of India will have to play a biggerrole  in the AatmaNirbhar Bharat policy announced by the Government of India. Youth have to adopt technologies and products that promote self-reliance and cut down on imports ( Even today, most Companies manufacturing modern RoomAir conditioners still use imported Compressors , which is the ‘heart’ of the Unit). ISHRAE will continue to play a vital role in promoting self-reliance through Made in India initiatives. Additional technical inputs will be provided  by setting up Industry  Guidelines & by the drafting of Standards for products to be used in the HVAC&R industry , & through this activity strive to improve the quality& energy efficiency of AC & R products in India.
