Paras Health Gurugram Treats Rare Heart Aneurysm with Coronary Artery Disease in 48-Year-Old Patient
New Delhi: Paras Healthcare Gurugram has achieved a significant milestone in advanced cardiac care by successfully treating a rare and extremely high-risk cardiac condition, enabling the patient to make a rapid and remarkable recovery and return to normal life under the leadership of Dr. Sushant Srivastava, Chairperson-Cardiac. Thoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS).
The patient, Mr. Gagan Rana (48) from Meerut, used to feel tired for no reason for many years. Walking fast or climbing stairs would cause palpitations and breathlessness. He was advised to see cardiologist and he chose Dr. Bharat Kukreti at Paras Hospital Gurugram. Dr. Kukreti examined him and after thorough investigation, arrived a diagnosis. He had a rare condition known as Submitral left ventricular aneurysm. A Large (4×5) cm part of the main pumping chamber of the heart had ballooned out. There was a risk of rupture and death or stroke. Further investigation revealed blockages in two coronary arteries and the heart. He would need Open Heart Surgery immediately. Such aneurysms are uncommon and particularly challenging to treat due to their close proximity to the mitral valve and major coronary arteries, significantly increasing surgical risk.
Compounding the complexity, the patient also suffered from chronic kidney disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, recurrent tachycardia, and reduced heart function. placing him in a very high-risk surgical category with an elevated risk of complications.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Rana underwent a highly specialized and complex surgery involving excision and repair of the left ventricular aneurysm along with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on 12 November 2025 at Paras Healthcare Gurugrans. The procedure required meticulous planning, precision, and advanced surgical expertise due to the rarity and location of the aneurysm.
What makes this case particularly noteworthy is the exceptionally smooth and fast recovery following such a high-risk procedure. The patient was mobilized early, showed steady improvement in heart function, and was discharged within just 7 days of surgery. an outcome rarely seen in such complex cases.
Today, Mr. Rana is walking independently, managing his day-to-day activities without assistance, and has successfully returned to his job within one month of surgery. reflecting the effectiveness of the surgical intervention and post-operative care.
Commenting on the case. Dr. Sushant Srivastava said, “the challenge in this case was to protect the mitral valve and as far as possible avoid changing it. Careful repair twchnique and precise placement of stitches made this possible. Otherwise the patient would have artificial valve for life. Post operative echocardiography revealed normally functioning valve and improved heart function. Achieving such a rapid recovery and early return to normal life in a high-risk patient is extremely gratifying and speaks to the strength of our surgical planning, execution, and team-based care.”
The patient has provided written consent for his case to be shared publicly for awareness and educational purposes, with the hope that it will encourage other patients suffering from complex heart conditions to seek timely expert care.
This successful outcome further reinforces Paras Healthcare Gurugram’s position as a leading center for rare and complex cardiac surgeries, and highlights Dr. Sushant Srivastava’s expertise in managing challenging, high-risk heart conditions with excellent patient outcomes.
