Hyderabad : Doctors at CARE Hospitals, Hitech City, have successfully performed a complex surgical procedure to remove a 35 cm ovarian tumor from a 59-year-old female patient, Ms. Nalla Laxmi, a native of Vemulawada. The tumor had grown silently over the past few months and occupied a significant portion of the abdominal cavity.
The patient had been experiencing gradual abdominal swelling and discomfort, which began to affect her daily life before she sought medical attention. Detailed evaluation and advanced imaging revealed a large multiloculated ovarian tumor, suspected to be of ovarian origin.
The case was led by Dr. Y. Yugandar Reddy, Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology, along with a multidisciplinary team. The patient underwent a staging laparotomy, which included right ovarian tumor excision, left oophorectomy, and infracolic omentectomy as part of comprehensive oncological management.
The surgery, performed under general anaesthesia, was completed successfully without complications. Intraoperative findings confirmed a large cystic tumor arising from the right ovary, with no evidence of spread to vital organs such as the liver, spleen, or bowel, which is a positive prognostic indicator in such cases.
Post-operatively, the patient was closely monitored in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and showed steady recovery with appropriate medical care, including antibiotics and supportive treatment. She is now clinically stable, recovering well, and has been discharged in improved condition with medical advice and follow-up care.
Speaking on the case, Dr. Y. Yugandar Reddy, Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology, CARE Hospitals, Hitech City, said, “Ovarian tumors can grow silently and are often detected at an advanced stage. This case highlights the importance of not ignoring persistent abdominal swelling or discomfort. Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention can significantly improve patient outcomes.”
Commenting on the successful outcome, Mr. Nilesh Gupta, Zonal Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, said, “At CARE Hospitals, we are committed to delivering advanced, patient-centric care backed by experienced specialists and robust clinical protocols. Managing such complex oncological cases with precision reflects our clinical strength and our focus on ensuring positive patient outcomes.”
Doctors further emphasized that symptoms such as persistent abdominal swelling, unexplained discomfort, or changes in abdominal size should not be ignored, as ovarian tumors often remain asymptomatic in early stages. Timely medical evaluation plays a crucial role in effective treatment.
CARE Hospitals continues to strengthen its leadership in advanced oncology care, combining clinical expertise, cutting-edge surgical capabilities, and a patient-first approach to treatment.
