English Daily Sikkim Express Golden Jubilee: CM Highlights Role of Free Media in State’s Growth

New Delhi : The Golden Jubilee of Sikkim Express was celebrated at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, in the presence of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister congratulated the publication on completing 50 years, calling it a historic milestone in Sikkim’s democratic and journalistic journey. He noted that since its establishment in 1976, Sikkim Express has evolved into one of the State’s most respected newspapers despite early challenges.

The Chief Minister praised the founding family for building the institution with dedication and a strong sense of public service, emphasising that journalism should serve society with credibility and responsibility.

Highlighting the present media landscape, he stated that Sikkim today enjoys a free and progressive media environment where journalists work independently without fear or pressure. He described Sikkim Express as a trusted partner in the State’s democratic process and institutional growth.

Special guests at the event included Gurinder Singh, National President of the All Indian Small and Medium Newspapers Federation; Vivek Gupta, President of the Indian Newspaper Society; and Shekhar Gupta, Editor-in-Chief of The Print. They lauded Sikkim Express for its five decades of dedicated service, describing it as a pillar of credible journalism and an important voice in strengthening democratic values and public discourse.

The Chief Minister also congratulated individuals honoured during the event for their contributions across various fields and invited citizens to warmly welcome the Prime Minister during his upcoming visit to the State.

The programme included the release of the Golden Jubilee Souvenir and special publications, along with a felicitation ceremony and cultural performances.
