HCG Cancer Hospital Nagpur Hosts National CME on Management of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies

 Nagpur : HCG Cancer Hospital Nagpur successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on “Management of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies – Case-Based Discussions” at Hotel Centre Point. The academic event witnessed participation from leading clinicians and oncology experts from across India.

Sharing her thoughts, Ms.Neeta Rajwar, COO, HCG Cancer Hospital Nagpur, said, “Such academic initiatives are vital in strengthening collaborative oncology care and ensuring that patients benefit from the latest advancements and evidence-based treatment approaches. Adding to this, Dr.Ajay Mehta, Director of Surgical Oncology Department, HCG Cancer Hospital, said, “Peritoneal surface malignancies require a highly specialized and multidisciplinary approach. Platforms like this CME enable clinicians to exchange advanced surgical insights and refine techniques such as CRS and HIPEC, ultimately improving patient outcomes.”

The CME served as a dynamic platform for discussing advancements and multidisciplinary approaches in managing complex peritoneal surface malignancies. Distinguished oncologists including Dr.Anand Pathak and Dr.Sudhir Tomey were among the key participants.

The scientific sessions began with Basics of Peritoneal Cancer by Dr. Krunal Khobragade, followed by case discussions led by Dr. Swapnil Patel. This was followed by a session on Appendicular Tumors and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, with case discussions by Dr. Vivekanand Sharma.

An insightful session on CRS and HIPEC in Ovarian Cancer was delivered by Dr. Aruna Prabhu, complemented by case discussions by Dr. Deepti M. The topic of Systemic Therapy in Peritoneal Malignancy was presented by Dr. Anand Pathak, followed by case discussions by Dr. Shantanu Pendse.

A key highlight of the CME was the surgical video demonstration and discussion on key techniques by internationally acclaimed expert Professor Lana Bijelic, along with case discussions led by Dr. Ambarish Chatterjee, Dr. Gopal Gurjar, and Dr. Krunal Khobragade.

The program concluded with a session on Colorectal Peritoneal Metastases by Prof. Lana Bijelic, followed by case discussions by Dr. Bhushan Jajoo.

The event witnessed active participation from HCG clinicians, including Surgical Oncologists Dr. Nitin Bomanwar and Dr. Krunal Khobragade; Medical Oncologists Dr. Shantanu Pendse and Dr. Sushant Ikhar; Radiation Oncologists Dr. Vaibhav Sonwani and Dr. Shanu Jain; and Hematologist Dr. Rajat Bajaj—highlighting the institution’s strong multidisciplinary expertise.

The CME emphasized evidence-based practices, recent innovations, and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in improving patient outcomes. It provided an excellent platform for knowledge exchange, peer learning, and strengthening collaboration among oncology professionals.
