HCG Cancer Hospital, Kolkata, observed the 12th International Day of Yoga a day ahead of the observance with an hour-long yoga and meditation session on June 20, 2026, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the adoption of yoga as a daily practice.
Employees across departments and verticals joined the session, conducted by two sisters from the Prajapita “Brahma Kumaris” Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya at the hospital’s New Town campus.
Staff members were guided through basic practices such as Skandh Chakra, Ghutna Sanchalan, Vajrasana and Kapalbhati, alongside meditation centred on inner peace, self-awareness, positive thinking and spiritual well-being.
Explaining the theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, meditation instructor Sister BK Shilpa said healthy ageing is not only about biological age, but also psychological growth and the ability to maintain balance amid increasing responsibilities.
“Yoga, now embraced across the world, reminds us that health is as much about the mind as the body. For patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals alike, it can support mental clarity, emotional balance and a more resilient response to stress,” said Dr Rupali Basu, Regional Business Head, East & AP, HCG Cancer Hospitals.
