BPF rally demanding BTC election

Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) today carried out a democratic rally pressing the Assam government to hold the general election to Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) within the month of October 2020. It also opposes extension of Governor’s Rule in BTC beyond 2th October next.

Around a hundred members led by party chief and former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary participated in the rally which started from the party office to the Deputy Commissioner Office, Kokrajhar. A memorandum was submitted to the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam State Election Commissioner through the Deputy Commissioner officer, Kokrajhar on the demands

Talking to Reporters Mohilary said the six month period of Governor rule in BTC will be over on 28 October and the BTC election should be held before that. He also said the Governor’s Rule should not be extended further as the people have the right for a democratic elected government. He said welfare and development work could not take place in the BTC region due to election code of conduct since the last 6 months.
