Big relief for patients considering fertility treatment: Milann launches needle-free medication technology
Bengaluru: Milann Fertility and Birthing Hospital, Bengaluru, has introduced the N-FIS (Needle-Free Injection System), a drug-delivery technology that enables the administration of selected medications without a conventional needle and syringe. The technology supports subcutaneous (SC) and intramuscular (IM) drug delivery, depending on the medication and the patient’s clinical requirements.
Milann has acquired the N-FIS technology, and nursing teams across its units in Bengaluru and Chandigarh have been trained in its use through comprehensive training sessions and demonstrations. The technology is now being used for eligible patients across Milann units, based on clinical suitability.
Fertility treatment can involve repeated injectable medications, particularly during ovarian stimulation as part of procedures such as IVF, ICSI and egg freezing. For patients undergoing medication over several days, repeated needle-based injections can contribute to discomfort, bruising and needle-related anxiety. N-FIS provides an alternative method of medication delivery for selected fertility treatments where clinically appropriate.
Unlike conventional needle-and-syringe injections, N-FIS uses controlled pressure to deliver medication through the skin as a fine, spray-like dispersion. The technology is designed to offer an alternative to conventional needle-based administration and potentially make the medication experience more comfortable for eligible patients.
At Milann, the initial use of N-FIS is for recombinant FSH (Follisurge), which can be administered using the technology for patients requiring this medication, subject to clinical suitability. The technology is not intended to replace conventional injections across all fertility treatments, but provides an additional drug-delivery option for eligible patients.

With N-FIS, we are offering a needle-free alternative for selected medications, helping make the medication administration experience more comfortable while keeping the patient’s clinical requirements at the centre of the treatment plan.”
At present, N-FIS has been used for medication administration in a small number of patients at Milann, with trained nursing staff overseeing the process. The initial experience has been positive, with patients finding the needle-free method more comfortable and convenient. Where clinically appropriate, eligible patients may also be trained to self-administer the medication under the guidance of the treating team.
The cost of medication administration through N-FIS is expected to be broadly comparable to the existing injection-delivery system, making it an additional option without a significant difference in the cost of administration.
The introduction of N-FIS at Milann is part of the hospital’s focus on exploring technology-led approaches that can improve the overall treatment experience while keeping clinical suitability and patient needs at the centre of care.
