Nation pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi & former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary today
The Nation pays homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 157th birth anniversary today. A series of functions are being organised across the country and by Indian Missions abroad.
A Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha was organised at his Samadhi, Raj Ghat in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial in Raj Ghat this morning.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Mahatma Gandhi’s entire life is a beacon of truth, non-violence, compassion, and service.
Sharing a social media post, Mr Modi noted that Bapu’s ideals will continue to pave the way for humanity in every era. He wished that the timeless message of Mahatma Gandhi keep guiding the countrymen towards a better society and a Viksit Bharat.
The Nation also pays homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 122nd birth anniversary today. He was born on 2nd October 1904 in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar, previously known as Mughalsarai in Uttar Pradesh.
As a teenager, he joined India’s freedom struggle and participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921. Following Independence, Shastri held several important positions in Uttar Pradesh and later in the Union Government.
