New Delhi  — The European Union (EU), in collaboration with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) and the European Legal Gateway Office in India, organised an EU Day on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on 29 October 2026 at IIIT-Delhi. The initiative aimed to strengthen educational, research and professional links between India and the European Union, while raising awareness among Indian students, researchers and recent graduates of opportunities across Europe.

Organised under the European Union’s Public and Cultural Diplomacy Project in India, the initiative formed part of the EU’s strategic partnership with India and reflected its commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties through education, skills development, research collaboration and mobility.

With a particular focus on the ICT sector, the event brought together EU representatives, academic leadership, experts, Erasmus+ alumni and students to explore European higher education and research opportunities, scholarship programmes, and pathways for professional development. In collaboration with the European Legal Gateway Office in India, the programme placed particular emphasis on safe, legal and informed mobility for ICT professionals interested in seeking opportunities in Europe.

The programme included an introduction to the European Legal Gateway Office and a presentation by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) on the Office’s pilot initiative in India. Erasmus+ alumni with experience in the ICT field shared insights into their academic and professional journeys in Europe, offering participants first-hand perspectives on international education, advanced research and career development.

A key highlight of the event was the keynote address by H.E. Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the European Union to India, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Sandeep Sen, Director of IIIT-Delhi, and an open discussion and Q&A with students and researchers.

H.E. Jean-Eric Paquet said, “Europe’s value proposition will become increasingly visible. We are building on 100,000 Indian alumni of European institutions, and on Europe’s strength as a global powerhouse in science and innovation, from the European Research Council to the European Innovation Council and Horizon Europe. With instruments available across many EU Member States, your success will be Europe’s success.”

Prof. Sandeep Sen, Director, IIIT-Delhi quoted, “IIIT-Delhi is delighted to host EU Day in ICT. Our students and researchers are increasingly engaged with European universities and research communities, and events like this help them make well-informed choices about their academic and professional futures. We value our collaboration with the European Union and look forward to deepening institutional partnerships that open up more opportunities for exchange, research and learning.

Representatives of EU Member States also shared information on ICT-related mobility and migration pathways, including presentations from Italy and Germany. The dedicated session on the Erasmus+ scholarship programme and the 2027 call highlighted opportunities for academic mobility and international learning. The programme concluded with an interactive EU quiz.

India is home to a large and dynamic ICT talent pool, while Europe offers world-class universities, research ecosystems and growing demand for digital skills. Through direct engagement with EU and Member State representatives, academic institutions and alumni, EU Day on ICT facilitated knowledge exchange, promoted intercultural understanding, strengthened institutional partnerships and fostered meaningful connections between India and the EU in information and communication technology.

By bringing together students, researchers, institutions and European stakeholders, EU Day on ICT contributed to a more connected India–EU ecosystem for knowledge exchange, skills development and cooperation in information and communication technology.
