Bengaluru : Bengaluru, widely regarded as India’s Silicon Valley, is a key driver of the country’s startup and technology ecosystem. With 24,026 DPIIT-recognised startups in Karnataka as of June 30, 2026, the state is among India’s leading startup hubs. As businesses scale, emerging risks spanning cyberattacks, artificial intelligence (AI)-related threats, data breaches, regulatory changes, and operational disruptions are making proactive risk preparedness increasingly critical. While innovation and growth remain the primary focus, a single unforeseen incident can significantly impact business continuity, reputation, and investor confidence if risks are not planned for early.

Recognising this need, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, one of India’s leading private general insurers, hosted ‘Startup Shield – The Risk Readiness Forum’ in Bengaluru on October 27, 2026. The initiative aims to equip Indian start-ups with the knowledge and tools to identify, assess and mitigate key business risks through structured risk planning and appropriate insurance solutions. It brought together participants, including startup founders, private capital investors, CXOs, industry experts, and risk professionals, to discuss practical approaches to identifying, managing, and mitigating business risks.

The discussions focused on strengthening risk preparedness across the startup lifecycle, covering areas such as AI-driven threats, cyber and data security, employee health and wellness, professional indemnity, directors and officers (D&O) liability, asset protection, and business interruption. Experts from ICICI Lombard shared real-world case studies and insights on how appropriate insurance solutions and structured risk management can help startups navigate unforeseen disruptions, protect business continuity, and build stakeholder confidence. The sessions also highlighted the growing importance of risk readiness in investor due diligence, enterprise partnerships, and board-level decision-making.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Anand Singhi – Chief – Corporate, International, Banca (KRG) & Government Business, ICICI Lombard, said, “Bengaluru’s vibrant startup ecosystem reflects India’s growing strength in technology and innovation. For India’s startup ecosystem to realise its full potential, risk management must evolve in step with innovation and growth. While founders focus on building products, securing capital and expanding into new markets, the ability to anticipate and absorb disruptions is equally critical to building enduring businesses. Risk preparedness is increasingly a marker of business maturity, influencing how investors and enterprise partners assess a company’s long-term potential. It is important to move beyond viewing insurance solely as a financial safeguard and recognise its role in strengthening business resilience. Through Startup Shield, we aim to encourage founders to integrate risk-informed decision-making into their growth journeys, enabling them to pursue their ambitions with greater confidence.”

Through Startup Shield, ICICI Lombard reaffirmed its commitment to supporting India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by encouraging startups to embed risk preparedness into their growth strategies and build resilient, future-ready businesses.
