Bengaluru: Montra Electric, India’s full-spectrum electric commercial vehicle brand & India’s first and number one electric tractor manufacturer, is strengthening its presence in the industrial material-handling segment with the deployment of seven E-45 electric tractors at Action TESA’s manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam. The deployment marks another significant step towards bringing electric mobility into the MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) manufacturing sector, where sustainability and resource efficiency are becoming increasingly important priorities.

The initiative positions Action TESA at the forefront of the shift towards cleaner industrial operations, as it evaluates electric tractors as an alternative to conventional diesel-powered vehicles used for material movement and intra-facility logistics. The deployment will allow the company to assess the E-45’s performance, utilisation and suitability for its day-to-day operational requirements, while advancing its broader sustainability objectives.

Montra Electric has been actively engaging with the MDF and plywood manufacturing industries through deployments, demonstrations and customer evaluations to showcase the potential of electric tractors in industrial applications. With growing interest in ESG-led manufacturing practices, the sector presents a significant opportunity for the adoption of electric mobility. The E-45 is designed to address applications involving regular material movement and short-haul transportation, demonstrating how electric tractors can be deployed beyond conventional agricultural use cases.

A key focus of the deployment will be the environmental and economic benefits of transitioning from diesel-powered tractors. Based on the operating profile of the deployed vehicles, the shift is expected to help Action TESA save approximately 50,000 litres of diesel annually, avoid 131 tonnes of tailpipe CO₂ emissions annually and deliver estimated operating cost savings of ₹ 40 lakh per annum. These benefits will offer a tangible illustration of how electrification can support both sustainability commitments and operational efficiency in the manufacturing sector.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director, Montra Electric, said, “Sustainability is increasingly becoming a key consideration for manufacturers, and the transition to cleaner industrial operations requires solutions that deliver on both environmental impact and operational performance. The MDF and plywood industry presents considerable potential for electric tractors, particularly in material movement and intra-facility logistics. Our engagement with Action TESA demonstrates how the E-45 can meet practical industrial requirements while helping businesses reduce their dependence on diesel. We see this as an important opportunity to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across the MDF sector and other manufacturing industries.”

Mr. Vivek Jain, Managing Director, Action TESA and member of FIPPI (Federation of Indian Plywood & Panel Industry), said, “As a responsible manufacturer, sustainability is an important part of how we evaluate and improve our operations. We are exploring solutions that can reduce our dependence on diesel while delivering the performance and reliability required for our material-handling needs. The introduction of Montra Electric’s E-45 tractors is an important step in this direction. We look forward to evaluating their operational performance and the potential benefits in terms of fuel savings, emissions reduction and operating costs.”

The initial deployment comprises seven E-45 electric tractors, with Action TESA evaluating the potential for a phased expansion across its operations based on performance and operational suitability. The initiative also builds on Montra Electric’s wider engagement with industrial customers, including deployments, demonstrations and operational evaluations across multiple MDF and plywood manufacturing companies. Till date Montra Electric has deployed 250 number of e-tractors across variants in various industries with a cumulative run of 3.25 lakhs km covered avoiding 750 tonnes of tailpipe CO₂ so far.

With the E-45, Montra Electric is addressing emerging applications across industrial segments, including biomass handling, compressed biogas operations and MDF manufacturing. By demonstrating the viability of electric tractors in these use cases, the company aims to support manufacturers in making the transition to more sustainable and efficient material-handling operations.
